Christmas out of the holidays

What kinda shit is this. My mom told me some crap about our town taking "Merry Christmas" out of the holidays. While I was not able to find anything about this in the local news paper online, something did strike my funny and now I understand it.

I went to the local Wal-Mart (that just opened a few weeks ago) and some young man was talking to the greeter at the door. The conversation was short and went something like this:

Greeter: Merry Christmas.
Man: I am so glad you said that. This is starting to make me sick.
Greeter: I have said Merry Christmas for more years than you could imagine and I refuse to say anything else unless it is of my own free will.

As I was driving down the road talking to my mom a few days later with my younger sister in the back seat, the subject came up. My mom started telling me that someone in town wanted to take the "Marry Christmas" out of the holidays and have it just "Happy Holidays". Then my little sister said, "We won't have Christmas any more?"

How sad is it when we as people take away what is really important. It is not about the X-Box 360's and your spoiled ass rotten child. Christmas is about being with the ones you love and Showing them how much you love them. If you child tells you that you only love them if you get them a personnel DVD player, then you failed as a parent to raise an appreciative member of society. I am up set because I know what I got for X-mas, not because it is or is not what I wanted, but because my boyfriend could not keep it a secret for 2 weeks and told me. And I am not really upset, just a bit disappointed because I will not have the element of surprise.

I go to work every day and serve my country. I do what I am told to do to meet the mission whether I agree with it or not. That is my job. You can't take "Merry Christmas" out of the holidays and if you as AMERICAN's allow this to happen. Shame on you!

This issue is a lot more complex than how it is often depicted. It's not that people don't want others to say Merry Christmas, it's that there is now a wider acknowldegement that extends past Christianity and wishes well to all people celebrating hoildays during this month. Not only is Christmas greeted, but so is Hanukkah, New Year's, even Thanksgiving. Please don't take it as an insult that some of us say "Happy Holidays" instead of Merry Christmas. It's all meant to wish people well beyond just the one day.

Merry Christmas, Sylvia - I miss it there and think of you!
